About Research
Dr. Little’s research lies at the interface of Chemical Engineering, Immunology, and Pharmaceutical Formulation. His group studies both conventional and new ways to deliver drugs including mimicking the body’s natural, sophisticated mechanisms of action. He is the founder of two pharmaceutical companies that work on treatments for cancer and inflammatory diseases. Dr. Little’s research has resulted in over 100 peer reviewed publications. Dr. Little has been recognized by over 50 national and international awards including the Curtis W. McGraw Research Award from the ASEE, being elected as a fellow of BMES, CRS, AAAS and AIMBE, three Carnegie Science Awards, the Society for Biomaterials’ Young Investigator Award, the Controlled Release Society’s Young Investigator Award, the Camille Dreyfus Teacher Scholar Award, the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Young Investigator Award, and two Coulter Translational Research Awards. He was inducted into the US National Academy of Inventors in 2022. Dr. Little was also named one of Pittsburgh Magazine’s 40 under 40, a “Fast Tracker” by the Pittsburgh Business Times, and also one of five individuals in Pittsburgh who are “reshaping our world” by Pop City Media.
